Oh my goodness! We were nominated for another Sunshine blogger award (like, months ago… yay posting backlog). A great big, hug, thank you to insertmemorycard for the nomination! It’s very flattering to think that we’re spreading sunshine all over the place some more 🙂 If you haven’t already, definitely head over there to see all the awesome video game thoughts and general greatness!
Since you know all about my boring life from our first Sunshine Blogger Award, I pulled in BadgersAndBowties for this, too, so leave some love for her! Maybe we can all convince her to post on Resident Evil 7 or one of the other games I’m too much of a scaredy-cat to play….
Here we go:
Rules
- Thank the person who nominated you
- Answer the questions given to you
- Nominate at least (fill in number here) bloggers!
- Write questions for your nominees to answer
The Questions
- What is your earliest gaming memory?
The earliest game I can really remember playing was Duck Hunt, and for some reason I hated that dog. I hated him with an unforgiving fury that, clearly, I still think about to this day.
Sitting around watching my older sister and brother playing what I called “Link,” but was actually called Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. I was young enough to not realize that the biggest word on the cartridge wasn’t the actual game title. - Given the choice, do you play as a good guy or a bad guy in video games (i.e. Paragon or Renegade in Mass Effect)?
I almost exclusively play good guy characters, but they tend to be assholes. For example, if I meet some bad guy with a justifiable sob story, he won’t get shot in the face, but I’ll definitely shoot him in the kneecap. For science.
I’m usually a good guy, although I may have accidentally punched a reporter in the face once. Accidentally. I definitely have “evil” playthroughs of games, usually to unlock trophies or something, but I really don’t have as much fun when I’m playing as some jerk. - Has there ever been a time when a video game helped you through a tough period in your life?
Yes, I actually had this happen very recently. Without going into too many personal details, gaming sometimes fills a void that can otherwise house more destructive vices. The games that I rely on during those times are mainly all RPGs, because you get to be someone else for a while.
I agree that games can fill emotional voids, as well as give you something productive to do instead of other things. I’ve talked about how Dragon Age: Origins helped me with some stuff, but I have a special place in my heart for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, which, again to not get into too many details, provided a complete and utter fantasy outlet when so many things seemed like they were falling apart. - Which video game mentor would you like to have in real life?
If I am picking someone who I actually would want to learn from and receive guidance from, I think I might pick Duncan, one of the Grey Wardens in Dragon Age. That being said, a mentor character that really stuck with me, though I wouldn’t necessarily want them in my life, is Maze from Fable. For whatever reason, when I think of mentors, he pops in my head immediately. I know that whole mentor-ship didn’t exactly end well, but I’m just really drawn to this character, I guess.
Duncan from the Grey Wardens. He seems very down-to-Earth and like he would really listen if you went to him with an issue. In-game he’s said to have a soft spot for his recruits, so I picture him being like a father-figure to the new Wardens who just left their homes and loved ones behind.
- What is your favourite dinosaur?
Therizinosaurus – the derpy Edward Scissorhands of the dinosaur world.
I’m a little more boring. Triceratops; for some reason this has been my favorite dinosaur since I was a little kid. Or the stegosaurus, but probably the triceratops a little bit more.
Nominations
As with most of these types of things, we’re supposed to share the love, so here we go. A few new blogs I’ve recently begun following and enjoying:
- The Dragon’s Tea Party is fairly new to the blogosphere, but I’ve enjoyed checking our their musings on games, gaming etiquette, and the like. Definitely check out their thoughts and gaming antics!
- Do you like fiction with a touch of horror? Fiction Spawn has you covered, complete with illustrations! Definitely worth a read, and definitely worth the thrills and chills.
- Gamesland offers reviews and thoughts on video games, and recently wrote a great post on diversity (which of course I liked because… it’s me).
And… hey, if you like the questions and want to write your own post, please do! I really enjoy reading all of your material, but I can’t possibly tag all of you!
What? Oh, questions. Yes. Here they are:
- Surprise! You’re in an RPG. What is your character build?
- What video game soundtrack rocks your world?
- If you had to summarize your blog with one snappy quote, what would it be?
- If you were a tree, what type of tree would you be? Bonus: Why?
- If you had one day during which everything you did would be successful, what would you do?
A huge thank you again to insertmemorycard for the nomination!!!
Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you soon!

Congrats on the award and I understand the ridiculous blogging backlog; I suffer from that, too. I feel like such a true narcissist, but I still have award posts to do! It’s not bragging though (or hopefully humble bragging); it’s more “Omg I appreciate that people like my stuff, and I wish I had time to show it!”
I like your questions. I’m going to be lazy and answer (some of) theme here :p
2. Too many soundtracks to count, but any Final Fantasy or Zelda one are at the top of my list.
3. “An internet philosopher muses about writing, gaming, and life.”
4. Submit my novel to an agent.

Hey, a little brag never hurt anyone 😉 And I appreciate your answers!! I’m definitely with you on #2, there is way too many great soundtracks out there to really be able to pin down one.

There are days when I’m in the mood for one, and other days when I’m in the mood for another. I’ll sometimes go weeks on a Zelda kick!

Congratulations Sunshine Blogger! I enjoy your posts, regardless of whether I’ve played the games you talk about, so you definitely shine through the darkness in my game knowledge! I resonate with games getting me through tough times though, so I’m glad you shared. 🙂

Thanks, Mr. Panda! I’m glad you enjoy the articles so much 🙂 . And thank you got being so supportive! I think games help a lot of people with things but it can be hard to talk about. Glad to hear they are things that help you, too!
