Sunshine Blogger x2

Oh my goodness! We were nominated for another Sunshine blogger award (like, months ago… yay posting backlog). A great big, hug, thank you to insertmemorycard for the nomination! It’s very flattering to think that we’re spreading sunshine all over the place some more 🙂 If you haven’t already, definitely head over there to see all the awesome video game thoughts and general greatness!

Since you know all about my boring life from our first Sunshine Blogger Award, I pulled in BadgersAndBowties for this, too, so leave some love for her! Maybe we can all convince her to post on Resident Evil 7 or one of the other games I’m too much of a scaredy-cat to play….

The Questions

1. What is your earliest gaming memory?
   
   The earliest game I can really remember playing was Duck Hunt, and for some reason I hated that dog. I hated him with an unforgiving fury that, clearly, I still think about to this day.
   
   Sitting around watching my older sister and brother playing what I called “Link,” but was actually called Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. I was young enough to not realize that the biggest word on the cartridge wasn’t the actual game title.
2. Given the choice, do you play as a good guy or a bad guy in video games (i.e. Paragon or Renegade in Mass Effect)?
   I almost exclusively play good guy characters, but they tend to be assholes. For example, if I meet some bad guy with a justifiable sob story, he won’t get shot in the face, but I’ll definitely shoot him in the kneecap. For science.
   
   I’m usually a good guy, although I may have accidentally punched a reporter in the face once. Accidentally. I definitely have “evil” playthroughs of games, usually to unlock trophies or something, but I really don’t have as much fun when I’m playing as some jerk.
3. Has there ever been a time when a video game helped you through a tough period in your life?
   Yes, I actually had this happen very recently. Without going into too many personal details, gaming sometimes fills a void that can otherwise house more destructive vices. The games that I rely on during those times are mainly all RPGs, because you get to be someone else for a while.
   
   I agree that games can fill emotional voids, as well as give you something productive to do instead of other things. I’ve talked about how Dragon Age: Origins helped me with some stuff, but I have a special place in my heart for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, which, again to not get into too many details, provided a complete and utter fantasy outlet when so many things seemed like they were falling apart.
4. Which video game mentor would you like to have in real life?
   If I am picking someone who I actually would want to learn from and receive guidance from, I think I might pick Duncan, one of the Grey Wardens in Dragon Age. That being said, a mentor character that really stuck with me, though I wouldn’t necessarily want them in my life, is Maze from Fable. For whatever reason, when I think of mentors, he pops in my head immediately. I know that whole mentor-ship didn’t exactly end well, but I’m just really drawn to this character, I guess.
   
   Duncan from the Grey Wardens. He seems very down-to-Earth and like he would really listen if you went to him with an issue. In-game he’s said to have a soft spot for his recruits, so I picture him being like a father-figure to the new Wardens who just left their homes and loved ones behind.
   
   
5. What is your favourite dinosaur?
   
   Therizinosaurus – the derpy Edward Scissorhands of the dinosaur world.
   
   I’m a little more boring. Triceratops; for some reason this has been my favorite dinosaur since I was a little kid. Or the stegosaurus, but probably the triceratops a little bit more.
