12 Days of Christmas: Rocking Around the Christmas Tree

“Have a Christmas hearty hop!” she sings happily, gesticulating with her eggnog.
“Those aren’t the words…” her friend hisses at her.

We’re back with our 12 Days of Christmas Collaboration, hosted by Kim over at Later Levels!

On the fourth day of Christmas Collab, Kim asked of me: It’s now Christmas Eve and you’re throwing a lively party for all your friends, family and favourite characters. Which video game soundtracks would be on your playlist?

Ooo so many. At first I thought about snow levels of video games, and the Snowpeak theme from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess came to mind, but I’m not sure that’s quite fit for a Christmas party. A snowy day, perhaps, but not a party.

And then I remembered that I stumbled across this little gem not too long ago:

Yep. “Jangle Bells,” the secret song that requires a code to access in Donkey Kong Country 3. It’s just so festive-sounding!!

Or, of course, there’s the famous “Freezeezy Peak” from Banjo-Kazooie:

Courtsey of GilvaSunner

Another game theme that just sounds so cheery and merry for all your holiday needs. To me, it even sounds like it’s borrowing a little from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” at times, which is a bit of an added bonus.

Ant my last pick… Well I have no idea where it falls in the game because I was listening to the soundtrack at work, but the “Lake Bresha” theme from Final Fantasy XIII sort of made me think of people running around in the snow, sledding, and perhaps with little Santa hats on…

I’m sure if I looked up other video game soundtrack lists I could find a few more, but these three floated to the top of my head when thinking about this particular question. But if I were throwing a Christmas party with holiday-esque video game music included in the playlist, you can bet these three tracks would be on it!

What about you? What festive video game songs would you have on your playlist? Do you think our choices are particularly “merry”? Let me know in the comments!

      1. Yes and no. I managed to sneak it in but then everyone decided to just sing (rather badly :P) Christmas carols and other holiday songs. Best laid plans and all that… But there is always New Year’s Eve, right?
