Secret Valentine: An Ode

It’s Valentine’s Day, you guys! And, thanks to the lovely Ian from Adventure Rules, AmbiGaming Corner has a secret Valentine. Who is it? Well, erm…

Today is a day, for those here and those far,
For telling our loved ones how special they are.
But, like a rose, that would smell just as sweet,
The word “love” has some meanings that you might find neat.

For instance, you might say you love a dear friend
Or love your whole family, and be there ’til the end.
You may say you love one you deeply admire
And who displays qualities to which you aspire.

With so many ways to define the word “love,”
I want to be clear of the kind I speak of.
This man Speaks for the Nerds, and I’ll tell you in rhyme
Why I enjoy all his writings… in three-quarter time.

(Yes I know, yes I know, but I just couldn’t wait
To correct myself here, for I speak in six-eight.)
If you have a moment, please lend me your ear
And I’ll tell you why Jeowulf is a man you should hear.

This is his logo, and make no mistake/I give him full credit, please send me no hate.

Well, first of all, Jeowulf is funny and kind
And always has many good thoughts on his mind.
From talking about photos from deep in a game
To designing a dwarf-monk with a really cool name.

He also examines how games are a boon
And examines the habits of how we consume
Our preferred media. And even gives tips
On how to beat the ol’ backlog. Hey, thank you for this!

Mindfulness, gaming, and pixel tunes, too,
It seems like there nothing this writer can’t do.
And with that, I’ll leave you with one final thought.
Nerd Speaker’s a site I enjoy quite a lot.

But don’t take my word. Oh no, not at all.
For the sample I’ve given you here is quite small.
Head on over and drop this fine gent a nice word
For if I haven’t convinced you… well that thought’s quite absurd.

And last, to my friends who are far or are near,
Something I should tell you throughout all the year.
There aren’t enough words, so let me just say
I hope you all have a nice Valentine’s Day.

Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you soon,
~ Athena

  1. AAAAH Athena ❤ You wrote me a POEM. A POEM. I feel so loved – thank you so much. I always love your blog too, and though you were not my secret Valentine, I'll just say here that I find your blog the most insightful places to read about gaming and the psyche of gamers. I think the posts you write on gaming and the zeitgeist of gaming are really doing good in a time when gamers are having to look more at themselves.

You're also so passionate about the games you love that you always make me feel FOMO for the ones I haven't tried, like Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age… it's such a shame too because I loved the original ME trilogy and Dragon Age: Origins!

Keep on doing what you're doing, and much love and success on this Valentine's Day. Also, enjoy Skyrim – keep your knees covered.

    1. Aw, thank you! I’m so happy you enjoy reading what I write as much as I enjoy your posts, as well 🙂 And if I can change someone’s mind about a game I love, that is certainly high praise, indeed!

Thank you kindly. I’ll try to avoid as many arrows as I can…

  2. Another poem! I love that folks are going all-out for this.
You’ve pointed out some of Jay’s articles that I haven’t checked out yet, so it sounds like I’ve got more catching up to do! He’s a cool guy with a very fun blog, so thank you for taking the time to participate in the event and to show your appreciation in such a creative way!
