Once upon a time, way back in 2018 (before the COVID-19 pandemic!!), one gamer endeavored to complete eight RPGs in a single year during a Year of the RPG. That gamer experienced the adventures of fives games before admitting defeat halfway through The Witcher 3, during which she experienced a multi-step side quest tucked within a multi-step side quest, which seemed necessary to complete for the main story line.

But after completing (and loving) Chrono Trigger, Skyrim, and Baldur’s Gate, and after rolling her eyes at Kingdom Come: Deliverance and putting it firmly on the DNF pile, the Year of the RPG was officially declared over.

Time passed, and one day TheAmbiGamer realized how much she had missed posting on her little corner of the internet. AmbiGamingCorner had been a passion project, and it seemed to have filled a unique niche – relating video games to real-world concepts in sociology and psychology. And TheAmbiGamer had found people who seemed to enjoy talking about games in this weird, nerdy way just like her.

And now it’s 2026. The time has come for another adventure. With that, TheAmbiGamer donned her jaunty hat and grabbed her trusty controller, and embarked on the sequel of The Year of the RPG, The Year of the RPG Returns.

On tap for this year are fewer games, and a much kinder (to me) posting schedule. I’ll be endeavoring to complete the following games:

  1. Dragon Age: Veilguard – I’m (obviously) the most excited about this one. I’ve started playing it and already have a ton of ideas I’d like to post about.
  2. Enotria – I’m excited and nervous about this one. I was terrible at Demon’s Souls, and was therefore afraid to play Dark Souls, and yet here comes Enotria, which is supposed to be a souls-like game, except set in Italy and utilizing Italian folklore. I’m here for it. I heard it isn’t as punishing as Dark Souls (which seemed to upset people), but hopefully this means I have a chance!
  3. Finishing the platinum for Dragon Age: Origins may require one more playthrough, although it will also require me to make decisions I don’t usually make, so I am looking forward to the potential for musings from this new way of experiencing my favorite game, especially after talking about how trophy-hunting in this game had had such an impact on my experience of the game.
  4. Tunic – I started playing this game a while ago, and I thought it was fun (and adorable). It scratches a very specific Zelda-shaped itch, so I’m looking forward to seeing what it does and how it does it as its own game.
  5. (If time) Mass Effect Ultimate Edition – “Oh no” I have to play the Mass Effect series again…

Wish me luck!! I haven’t yet decided on a posting schedule, except I know that my IRL responsibilities continue to take a lot of my time, so I will check in as I have progress to note. Hope to see you along for the ride!

Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you soon,

Athena
