Spirits ‘n’ Sprites: Truth

A gamer walks into a bar…

…and asks for a Truth.

The bartender turns around and immediately says that they cannot possibly handle that.

Welcome back to Spirits ‘n’ Sprites, a temporary bar set up and maintained by AmbiGaming! In case you missed our last fabulous game-themed cocktail we served up, you can find our special recipes here.

While L.A. Noir is not a game I have played yet (and I admit that this article has pushed it a little higher on my “to play” list), one thing I found fascinating was how the game used motion capture in order to make reading body language an important part of the game. From these movements (and, I suppose, regular ol’ clue-finding), the good Detective Cole tries to decide whether a person is telling the truth, whether he doubts what they’re saying, or whether their words are a flat-out lie.

Just the facts, sir or madam.

With this being February and all, I thought about concocting a love potion, but those are slightly creepy if you think about them too hard, so instead I settled on a drink that will, instead, give the person the strength (or the memory loss) to, well, tell the truth.

Possibly still a little creepy, but in less of a “I’m taking away your free will” way and more of a “I’m inhibiting my own good sense” sort of way.

And, just to poke fun at a stereotype, I’m just going to mention that police officers are supposed to like coffee, right?

Please do not attempt to make or partake in these drinks at home if you are underage in your country.

Truth
Core flavor: coffee

Ingredients:
3 oz (90 mL)  coffee liqueur
1 oz (30 mL) vodka
3-4 oz (90-120 mL) milk

Pick your favorite crime-fighting mug and mix the ingredients together in that order. You’re a busy detective and don’t have time for complicated mixed drinks.

Just don’t drink and drive, people.

Thanks for coming! Hope to see you next month. I’m still taking requests, so if you have one, let me know in the comments! Otherwise…

  1. A drink you *really* don’t wanna spill! 😛 Sorry, I couldn’t help it. I saw the excellent intro pun and mine just came out.

Vodka and milk is not a combination I have ever tried. I am kind of curious to be honest!

  2. I was telling my coworker about this drink on Friday afternoon and his response was: “Vodka and milk??” The truth is, I was a bit fearful of this combo but I trust you. Glad I did because it was awesome! Very strong with that coffee kick. Superb 👌

Yarr! I love Isabela (she’s second favourite Dragon Age character). I can’t wait to drink the next drink.. hic.

    1. People keep saying this, but I don’t really see why this is such an odd combination. Vodka doesn’t have a taste… And it doesn’t curdle milk. Anyway, I appreciate your trust!! And I’m glad you liked the drink haha

Yep. I guess we’ll have to see what mix-up the Pirate Queen can get into! haha

  3. For whatever reason, I saw a cocktail based on LA Noire and my first thought was that it was going to be something that make’s people’s faces twist up, in honor of the motion acting. Glad it’s something more sensible than that.

That’s actually pretty clever. And that could certainly be arranged as a part two…. haha That’s what I get for making a drink for a game I only have a tertiary understanding of! But seriously, thank you. I’m glad this drink doesn’t twist any faces!
