VGC Day 25: The Backlog

Welcome back to our 30 day video game challenge! If you’d like to catch up with the other days, click here.

Wow! I can’t believe we’re on Day 25 already! (“Already”? It’s literally been almost half a year.)

No matter. Today the Video Game Challenge wants to know:

Day 25: What is a game you plan on playing?

I just checked my list of “to play” games. Excuse me while I go into the other room and laugh hysterically.

Courtsey of YoshiFan007

Mythal protect me. Okay. I’m not going to get crazy and list my backlog… I’m going to legitimately sit down and pick a game I am actually going to play as soon as I finish the games I’m playing now.

Games I’m Playing Right Now

Mass Effect: Andromeda
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Dragon Age: Inquisition (replay)
Mass Effect 2 (replay)

Game I Definitely Will Play

The Witcher 3

And no, to answer your (unasked) question. I apparently do not play short games.

What about you? What game do you plan on playing? Do you have an absolute “must play” game for me? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you soon!

      1. Noooo, it’s definitely not short. 63 hours for me. I guess you could technically finish in a few hours if you don’t explore, skip every side quest, and stop after the first ending, but you will literally miss out on over half the story that way.

  1. I see a heavy Bioware influence in your games being played

For my next bout of games, I’m thinking of doing Cosmic Star Heroine, Limbo, and either the witcher 3 or ME andromeda. I can only handle 1 big game at a time if i actually want to finish it

    1. Me? BioWare influence? *cough cough* I don’t know what you’re talking about! haha

Limbo is on my “eventually” pile, as is Little Nightmares. I just looked up Cosmic Star Heroine, and it looks really cool, too. I’ve had to start organizing my list into “definitely going to play,” “need to finish,” and “rainy day” piles, because unless and until this is my job, there are just too many games! haha

I hear you. I’m trying to play through MEA and Horizon: Zero Dawn at the same time. It’s not working very well, so I’ll be reimagining my playing schedule haha

  2. If I list my backlog, I think I’d breakdown and cry. I have a closet full of games that I haven’t gotten to and that doesn’t include my digital games.

I’m currently playing through Prey and MEA (like you, that isn’t working so well and MEA has been neglected). I will definitely be playing Far Cry 4 in the near future and I plan on getting Zelda as well. Some of the games I hope to play in the near future are Little Nightmares, Persona 5, and Dishonored 2.

    1. Yeah, that backlog can sure creep up, can’t it??

Little Nightmares is definitely on my radar, but I’m really trying to complete some of the games in my pile before “officially” adding any more.

How are you liking Prey so far? I only played the demo.

      1. I mostly like Prey but I’m going through patches of it where I lose interest in it but just when I am thinking about closing it down, it draws me back in.

  3. Oof, you have your work cut out for you with The Witcher 3. I never played the other ones due to the criticism they got for basically ignoring the book canon for a “sexy” game, so I couldn’t tell you if they are as ridiculously long as the third one. It is as great as everyone says, though.

I come bearing shorter game recommendations: Bastion, Oxenfree and The Flame in the Flood.

Bastion is one of my favourite games ever. The way the soundtrack works with the story is amazing, and I won’t spoil the plot, but it plays on a lot of themes from westerns in an interesting way.

The Flame and the Flood is also a game I loved due to unusual storytelling, you discover things thanks to the changes in the environment. It can be fiendishly difficult at times, but there is something very satisfying about its approach to survival game mechanics.

Oxenfree is hard to describe, but I think you might like that it has a lot of choices and none of them are clearly “the good one”. Also, get ready to be scared and confused (and nostalgic).

    1. Yeah, I heard it’s a big game… That’s the price of being a diehard RPG fan, I suppose… (sigh).

I’ve heard Bastion is a good game, and I just looked up Oxenfree and… well you had me at “moral ambiguity” haha. Thanks for the recommendations (and thanks for bearing shorter games, too)!

  4. I have to literally laugh out loud at this question because my backlog is over a hundred games deep o.O But I do have some games I’m planning to play next. I just bought Horizon: Zero Dawn and Final Fantasy Type-0. Since the latter is fairly short, I’ll probably start that next when I finish The Room 3. I’m trying to limit myself to just two games at a time, and I’ve been playing another mobile game Brave Exvius, which I like, but its freemium nature is starting to annoy me lol, so I’m going to back off on playing it as much. I want to play Persona 5, NieR: Automata, and I really want to find a Switch so I can go Mario Karting with friends!

    1. There are just way too many great games, aren’t there? It’s a good problem to have!

Yeah i have a ton of games on my list, but I’m trying to organize them into more realistic columns so I don’t get depressed every time I look at my document. I’d love to eventually get a Switch so I can bother my friends in other places on the interwebs haha!

  5. Ah, backlogs… That was once the theme of my blog, haha. You certainly have a full plate! I have the following on the go: Mario Kart 8, Final Fantasy IV, Recore, Breath of the Wild, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Fallout 4, and Horizon Zero Dawn. I’m focusing on HZD though because Aloy is awesome. My immediate plans after my in-progress mess has been sorted are: Dragon Age Origins and Final Fantasy VI.

As for recommendations, I always say give the FFXIII Trilogy a shot. Just tune out the hate mobs and form your own opinion on it. Who knows? It just might surprise you (it certainly did with me 🙂 )

    1. Shh… don’t tell anyone that that’s the Final Fantasy game I actually want to start with! 😉

Wow! Those are a lot of substantial games you have going on!! Do you have specific days for each one, or are they all just in progress until you beat one and then focus on another?

And look, I even contained my excited squeak about Dragon Age: Origins 🙂

      1. I forgot to mention to ignore my opinion on FFXIII too. I blindly love it as much as the internet blindly hates it, haha. My advice is to form YOUR own opinion 🙂

I’m burnt out on Fallout 4 and Recore. I’ll get back to those later. I grind a few levels on FFIV when I feel like it (trying to prep for the nasty final bosses). Brave Exvius is just a freemium game to waste a few minutes a day on. I was doing alternating days for HZD and BoTW, but Aloy recently crushed Link for my attention so I’m focusing down HZD (currently about 60% done).

Someone’s frequent praise of Dragon Age may have something to do with me bumping it up on my To Play list. 🙂

        1. Well, if someone’s praise about Dragon Age can sway you, someone else’s praise can sway me about FFXIII.

Yeah I paused HZD because I’m trying to plow through Andromeda, and I passively play the ones that I’m replaying when I don’t want to think too hard about the game haha. 60%? Impressive!

  6. I literally go to a backlog site just to keep track of this, so short answer, I have a lot of games on my to-play list that I currently own, and yes, they’re mostly RPGs. 😛
