Update on Patronage

Hello, AmbiGaming readers!!

As many of you know, AmbiGaming has been undergoing a number of changes over the past year. I took a few breaks last year, and then my schedule at work expanded. I’ve acquired some new responsibilities through my sailing club. Through all of this, I’ve been slowly reducing the number of posts per month that appear on AmbiGaming as my spare time decreases and gets spread between more activities and personal projects.

But as time has gone on I’ve felt less “okay” with locking content behind a paywall. I hate it in games, and talked about it here on the blog, and yet I went and did it. With that in mind I am going to make a change, so AGC’s practiced morals line up with our preached ones.

I am not going to delete anything while there are still patrons on the tiers, but effective January 31, 2020, there will no longer be any greyed-out “goodies” hidden behind paywalls on AGC’s Patreon page. If I write a post that has extra notes, they will be made available, as usual, but like I said, it seems hypocritical to lock content behind a paywall when I get angry at video games for doing so.

If you want to support AmbiGaming Corner because you believe in it, I am grateful. But from now on you can think of your patronage as a subscription fee that you don’t have to pay to get the content, but the creator would really appreciate it if you threw a dollar or two at the cause!

I realize that I may lose patrons because of this, but I believe that when one has a platform, no matter how small, that person should conduct themselves they way they wish others to conduct themselves.

As it stands, I’ll be cross-posting my articles onto Patreon starting in January, and if there are any update posts for the blog they will go there first, in addition to the now-unpaywall’d goodies (yes, that’s totally a word).

I cannot possibly express my gratitude to the few people who have stuck around despite all the changes these past few years, and I am truly happy that you all have been here!

Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you soon!
~ Athena

    1. Thanks, Aether. That really means a lot to me. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the direction of this blog, and the one thought that’s always come up consistently was having to “do something” with the patreon page. It took a while to figure out what was bothering me about it, so I really appreciate your comment!
