VGC Day 4: Identify Yourself!

Happy New Year! Welcome back to AmbiGaming’s Video Game Challenge! Be sure you’re keeping up with the previous days!

With 2017 still brand-y new and with resolutions of self-improvement still burning in our hearts, the video game challenge wants to know:

Day 4: What video game character do you identify most with, or wish you were like?

If I were to take that question as it’s written, I’d get two different characters. The character I identify the most with would be (currently) Samantha Traynor from Mass Effect 3, even though I’ve already written a love letter to her with this list. But the character I’d like to be most like… well, we’ll get to that in a moment.

For the former, I can appreciate being the somewhat dorky girl next door who gets thrown in with all these people who I perceive as much cooler than me, but after much fretting and social awkwardness wind up finding my place (pats self on back). I appreciate that although she’s gay she’s not a stereotype, and likes scented oils and loofahs and can kick your ass at a video game and tend bar with the best of them. She wants someone to come home to, and isn’t afraid to hide her intellect… Even if she’s awkward about it afterward.

Credit to Serg Veterok for the video.

We also have similar tastes in (read: the best) dance moves.

But the game character I wish I could be most like would be my Warden from Dragon Age (sigh… don’t you play any other games, Athena??). Yes, but that’s beside the point.

I played Dragon Age: Origin during a very big life transition, and I was incredibly stressed about being in a new job position, a new place, and not having any of my friends or family nearby. I wish I could say I thrived as well as my Warden did when faced with those types of circumstances. I certainly tried. I remember playing the game and thinking that if one little elf could be thrown into such an unfamiliar and isolated situation and do alright for herself, then… well gosh darn it I’d try to do the same.

Besides, I never even saw a dragon, let alone had to fight one.

What video game do you most identify with? Did you ever wish that you could be more like a video game character? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you soon!

  1. JC Denton from the first Deus Ex. A bit naive, and believing what you’re told and following orders like a soldier, but later finding out that stuff is waaay more complicated. And Adam Jensen from the third one, I guess. just because of the line “I didn’t ask for this”.
Also, +1 for kick-ass body augmentations

  2. I don’t know why, but I beat Dragon Age II and still haven’t had a chance to even play Origins yet. I liked my Hawke character in DAII a lot though. I really hope I get around to playing the Mass Effects games at some point. Samantha sounds really awesome.

As for me, please see my rambling comment from your great Day 2 post. 🙂 That is my answer to both of these questions, if that makes sense. I could probably write a short story on how similar I am to Lightning’s character, and how I wish I was more like her, haha.

  3. I used to relate to Squall from Final Fantasy 8. I’m not much of a people person and went through a phase were I would respond by saying “whatever.” That’s were the similarities end though. Sadly I do not have a love interest who launches dogs at enemies.

  4. I definitely have a character I identify with, but there are too many feel shenanigans and I do not want to sully up your comment section with them hehe. I’m definitely doing this challenge when I get some time! I can’t wait to meet Samantha when I watch the next Mass Effect. I’m right in the middle of ME 2

      1. It’s definitely on my list of things to do! Once things settle down a bit more (and I catch up on all my blog subs), I think I’ll start doing it. I might schedule it a whole month in advance *plans*

I love ME2. I’m more than half way through it. He’s been doing all of the characters’ loyalty missions and is currently on Tuchunka for Grunt’s and Mordin’s.
